Counselling Fees
Seeing a Counsellor/Psychotherapist is not covered under Medicare but does not require a GP referral, or a Mental Health Care Plan. The session fees to see a Counsellor/Psychotherapist are similar to the “Out of Pocket” gap fee you would generally pay to see a Psychologist after rebates.
Counsellor
Standard Consultation - $90 - $120/session
Psychotherapist
Standard Consultation - $90 - $130/session
Psychology Fees
To see a registered psychologist, you do not need a referral from your GP, or to obtain a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP). However, this would mean that consultations are charged at a full fee rate. If you obtain a referral from your GP and is on a valid MHCP, you are covered under Medicare for a rebate, which means the fee you pay to see a Psychologist is reduced.

Standard Consultation - $200 - $240/session
Medicare Rebate - $89.65
Out of Pocket - $110 - $150
Clinical Psychologist
Standard Consultation - $240 - $280/session
Medicare Rebate - $120.35
Out of Pocket - $130 - $180
